Alfonso Ray Morgante, also known as Al Ray to his family and friends, was born in Lindsay on July 8, 1941, to Chester and Rose Ray.
He passed away of natural causes on September 20, 2021 at home his in Lindsay.Alfonso was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather as well as a friend to many. He was born and raised in Lindsay, graduating from Lindsay High School in 1959 and then from the College of Sequoias, where he studied business. He worked for the local Post Office and also at the Cork’n Bottle up until the time he bought his first small market in Strathmore. From that start, he grew his businesses to include several small markets in Lindsay and Porterville. He later worked for Combined Insurance, traveling throughout the San Joaquin Valley and beyond as a representative.
A pride of his community involvement was the coaching of a local Little League team with his lifelong friend Leonard Olmos, which they lead to three championships in a row. Alfonso was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rudy. He is survived by his wife, Maria Centeno Morgante of Lindsay; his former wife Elvira Ortstadt; his children Dale (and Tanya) Ray of Manteca and Michelle Morgante of Merced; granddaughters Natalie, Jessica and Katherine Ray; and grandsons Alex, Matthew and Robbie Morgante.
