Kay Keeley Turner

Kay Turner Obituary

 

Kay was born October 26, 1927 and passed peacefully away November 22, 2020.  She was the only child of William and Clare Keeley of Lindsay.  Her grandfather J.N. Keeley was an early pioneer of the Lindsay area; her great grandfather Julius Orton settled in Lindsay in 1857.

Kay lived her entire life in Lindsay where she attended Lindsay Schools; she graduated Lindsay High School in 1945.  Kay wrote her own monologue which she presented at school functions and community affairs.  She was active in the Drama Department having leads in school productions.  She was a the 2nd honored queen of Jobs Daughters.  Kay attended Fresno State and married Norman Turner upon his discharge from the Merchant Marines in 1947; they settled in Lindsay and Kay became active in Civic Affairs. She helped to found the “Villagers" a young Womens Club, welcoming young war brides to Lindsay.

Her husband was called into the Army and was stationed in Germany for two years; Kay joined Norman  and they traveled during his time off, they visited France, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and Monaco.

Kay enjoyed her social life, including bridge club from the mid 1940’s up until the Spring of 2020.  Kay spent her summers at Camp Nelson  from the time she was born, in 1947 her father bought a cabin where Kay entertained many friends and family throughout the years.  Kay has given the cabin to Tracie; her family is continuing the traditions.

Kay and Norman begin their journey as Orange Farmers on the Land along side the Keeley Family land that her grandfather purchased.  They were blessed with the arrival of a son Marvin Keeley and a daughter four years later, Tracie.  Kay was very active in her children’s activities including little league, youth church group, 4-H Club and Job’s Daughters.  She served as home room mom and Jefferson School PTA President.

Kay is preceded in death by her husband in 1989 and son Marvin in 2020.  She is survived by her daughter Tracie Shamp (David) three grandsons ,Jason and Scott Turner, Aaron Shamp (Alyssa) and granddaughter Lindsay Turner as well as three great granddaughters Morgan, Keeley Ann, CoraLee, great granddaughter Olivia Grace Turner and great grandson Erikson James Shamp. 

Graveside services will be held Friday, December 4th at the Lindsay Strathmore Cemetery.  Remembrances can be made to your favorite charity or Camp Nelson Emergency/Volunteer Fire Services  to Camp Nelson Volunteer Fire Dept. ~ 1500 Nelson Drive. Camp Nelson Ca 93208.
